Big break
Originally a 1968 novel by Barry Hines, Kes tells the story of Billy who comes from a deprived background and is struggling at school. He adopts a fledgling kestral and sets about training it.
The story became a film directed by Ken Loach.
Masque's stage version starred Mark Stephens as Billy who is now better known as Marc Warren. He was born in Northampton and made his professional stage debut thanks to Kes.
He writes: "Somebody saw Kes and gave me my break at the Northampton Royal Theatre, which was my professional debut. So thank you very much for that."
Marc Warren went on to appear on TV in roles including Hustle, The Vice, State of Play, Mad Dogs and Van Der Valk.
