GROUP'S FIRST REVIEW IN FOUR DECADES
Northampton Herald & Post, December 1997
One of Northampton's oldest amateur dramatic groups will be presenting a review for the first time in more than 40 years.
Masque Theatre will perform The Shakespeare Review at Northampton College Performance Arts Centre in St Gregory's Road from Wednesday.
The group performed its last revue at its old premises in Thenford Street. But director Jean McNamara thought it was high time Masque did it again.
Compiled by Christopher Luscombe and Malcolm McKee, the show is an anthology of songs and sketches based around the Bard.
It includes material from the likes of Alan Bennett, Maureen Lipman, Victoria Wood and Noel Coward.
It was originally put together to provide some light relief in a service being held to mark Shakespeare's birthday in 1993.
It first played at the Barbican Pit in 1994 winning rave reviews but this is thought to be among the first amateur productions of the revue.
Among the cast are Pat Coleman, Min Kingston, John Lott and Bryan Hall.
With plenty of singing, dancing, sketches and readings, it promises to be highly entertaining.
